Bio

Kim Phillips-Fein is the Robert Gardiner-Kenneth T. Jackson Professor of History at Columbia University. She is the author of Fear City: New York’s Fiscal Crisis and the Rise of Austerity Politics (Metropolitan Books, 2017) and Invisible Hands: The Businessmen’s Crusade Against the New Deal (W.W. Norton, 2009).  Her essays have appeared in the Nation, the Atlantic, the Journal of American History and the Baffler, among other publications.  She has held fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Russell Sage Foundation, and the Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers. She is a Distinguished Lecturer for the Organization of American Historians.
